A Little Information

Anne and I decided to try a week on Windermere from the 3rd to 10th July 2002. We had made a couple of enquires to the Windermere Lake Warden and to the Windermere Marina Village. We decided on the Marina Village as the moorings had water and electricity and the facilities were very good - pool, health club, gym etc for £145 for a whole week. We arrived at 1600 and had Sophie rigged and on the water in her mooring at 1830. The slipway was more difficult to negotiate than others we had used due to a slightly uneven approach and a hump at the water's edge, but we did manage to get Sophie launched and recovered without the need of any extra assistance.

To use the lake we had to register with the Water Warden. Registration for Sophie lasts for a year and cost £5 and an additional £4 for a set of numbers that must be displayed on the hull.

We spent 6 nights on board with our last night in a hotel. The marina was really nice and only a 10 minute walk from Bowness. We sailed alternate days and did a bit of walking and sight seeing on the days in between.

Overall it was an excellent week which went quickly. Maybe next time we'll go for 2 weeks.
