manta 19 engine

paul callaghan - Mon 18 Jun 2007 18:01:05 Does anybody know off the top of there heads what the correct shaft size engine is best suited for the Manta 19?
I know the manufacturers instructions say a 5HP engine is recomended but not what shaft size. My current engine is mounted on the aft transom directly without the use of an adjustable bracket. It would be a great help to me without me having to back up to the mooring to take a measurement I forgot to get on my last visit.
What do you use?

Craig - Fri 22 Jun 2007 20:33:17 Paul,

I have a 4 year old 4hp tohatsu 2 stroke which came with the boat. I have found it very reliable and it pushes the manta along at 5/6 knots with ease. The engine is mounted directly onto the transom on the port side. I never got the chance to measure the engine, however from the top of the transom to the bottom of the boat is 21 inches at the centerline and approximately 20 inches at the postion of the outboard. Looking at the manufacture info, the engine I have must be a long shaft. I also have a 3hp seagull which is a standard shaft which is too short, I'll need to fit an outboard bracket. Hope this info is of some help.

Regards,
Craig
