Steve Cookson - Fri 06 Oct 2006 20:03:41 Hi. Anybody know where to find the hull identification number on a Manta 19? I need it for insurance purposes, but don't know where to look. Help!

Mark - Sun 08 Oct 2006 19:35:47 Had a good look over Sophie today but couldn't find any plates or moldings in gel coat to show the hull number. The only thing I have with the number is the main sail.

If you do find out if/where there is a hull number then I'd be interested to know.

Steve Cookson - Sun 08 Oct 2006 22:30:22 Thanks for your efforts Mark, but there's every chance it's a wild goose chase! My Manta (and yours too) was built before HIN's became compulsory, so maybe Blakes just didn't bother. The only number on the hull seems to be the build date engraved on the builders plate on the transom. I suppose this would be a unique number for the class, as they would be unlikely to complete more than one hull per day. Interestingly, there is nothing to link the sail nimber with a particular hull, so the sail number doesn't really count for much. Anyway, I'm going to give the insurance people the info that I have, and they'll just have to make do; these forms are driving me crazy!

Would be interested to hear if anyone has more to add?

peter booker - Thu 19 Oct 2006 20:02:07 I bought my Manta this year in good faith and was told it was an 82 vintage.

The sail number seems to match the number on the transom (inboard) and has it as 1126/78. From this I deduce that the boat is number 1126 of 1978.

Not too worried as the boat is in very good condition and the insurance company are happy with the info provided.

Peter.

Hull Identification Number

Mark - Thu 19 Oct 2006 20:09:41 Is the number on a plate or something? I can't find anything on Sophie. If you could send me a photo to mark@toddie.demon.co.uk so I know what to look for, I would appreciate it.

peter booker - Thu 19 Oct 2006 20:14:25 Mark,

It's raining at the moment so you will have to wait.

If you can't find it I fear it has gone AWOL. Mine is clearly still there.

Super web site. Thanks. If I can help in any way please let me know.

Peter.
