mhsorens Sat 02 Jan 2021 21:20:18 | Three Austrians from Yachtclub Breitenbrunn decide to check whether or not it is possible to make a Manta 19 plane. Insane video. Their advice: Don't try this at home! https://business.facebook.com/YachtclubBreitenbrunn/videos/3565151186914349

Smanta Mon 04 Jan 2021 12:30:17 | Best video I've watched for a long time |
Mark Mon 04 Jan 2021 14:52:30 | Wow - must be the fastest Manta under sail - I wonder how fast she was going? |
mhsorens Mon 04 Jan 2021 18:57:38 | Yachtclub Breitenbrunn has just answered the question (we all ask): The top speed was 12-14 knots in 30 knots of wind. Judging from the Windex and sail orientation they did it on a beam reach. Btw, the assym-spi/code0 on the jury-rigged bowsprit doesn't even look a lot bigger than the standard 17 sqm spinnaker, does it?
It's exciting stuff from expert sailors, but I wouldn't dare to risk a rudder loss, a broach or a de-masting myself. What is interesting, though, is how well the boat responds to rough handling. That's good to know. |
Red Herring Sun 10 Jan 2021 17:01:15 | I would love to watch this, but whenever I download it the video is completely frozen, apparently 3/4 of the way through. What should I, or someone else, do to resolve this? |
mantaray Fri 15 Jan 2021 01:38:11 | You can view the video by googling breitenbrunn facebook then click on "other" and then select "videos |
Red Herring Sat 16 Jan 2021 13:10:16 | Thanks, that worked. It is actually the Yachtclub Breitenbrunn facebook site which has the amazing video. |
mhsorens Thu 28 Jan 2021 16:41:09 | OMG! now I understand - you clicked the image, I used for illustration. I so struggled to understand your issue, that I didn't see the obvious explanation. The issue with this web site is, you can neither put active links in the comments (so i just added the links as text), nor embed video (so I put in a screenshot for illustration purposes). I suppose Mark has very good reasons for this choice, maybe to avoid spamlinks. But as all users must me registered to comment, maybe referral links or embeds wouldn't be such a bad thing? |
